David E. DeMatthews

David E. DeMatthews is the W.K. Kellogg Endowed Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Texas at Austin, with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Special Education. His work focuses on educational leadership, policy analysis, and inclusive schooling. Prior to UT-Austin, he served as an assistant professor at the University of Texas at El Paso and held roles in urban school districts including Baltimore City and DC Public Schools.

Research interests include how leaders sustain high-quality, inclusive schools and the impact of policies on educational equity. Collaborations include work with NEPC (National Education Policy Center), where he co-authored policy briefs and reviews addressing school finance, voucher programs, and charter-school growth. His recent publications emphasize fiscal equity challenges in public education and the implications of enrollment trends.
