David Denby is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at Tufts University, part of the School of Arts and Sciences. He joined the Philosophy Department in 1996 and holds a PhD from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a BPhil from the University of Oxford, and a BA from University College London. His research focuses on metaphysics, particularly modality, properties, and ontology, with additional interests in philosophy of language, mind, and ethics. He teaches a wide range of philosophy courses at all academic levels.
Education: PhD (1997, UMass Amherst), BPhil (1988, Oxford), BA (1986, UCL).
Research Interests: Denby’s work explores foundational metaphysical questions, including mereology, modal logic, and the nature of properties. He also investigates intersections between metaphysics and philosophy of language, mind, and ethics. Current projects include analyzing modal discourse and ontological frameworks.
