David Coley is a Professor in the Department of English at Simon Fraser University. He holds a BA from Connecticut College, an MA from Pennsylvania, and a PhD from the University of Maryland. His research focuses on medieval literature, particularly discourses of plague in 14th-century poetry, representation of speech in Middle English works, and premodern ecologies. He co-created the podcast The Canterbury Fails, exploring marginal medieval literature paired with thematic cocktails. His book Death and the Pearl Maiden (2019) won the 2020 Margaret Wade Labarge Prize. He contributes to journals like Studies in the Age of Chaucer and edited volumes such as Chaucer and Trauma (forthcoming 2025).
He teaches courses including 'The Medieval World' and 'Seminar in Literature and Environment.' His work bridges literary analysis, cultural history, and digital innovation, reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary research and public engagement.
