About
Professor David Coley heads the Energy and Design of Environments research centre at the University of Bath's Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering. He holds a BSc in Physics and PhD in theoretical nuclear physics from the University of Surrey, with previous positions at Exeter University.
His research investigates energy use in buildings, low-carbon design, climate change impacts on the built environment, and occupant behavior. Current projects include developing future weather files (PROMETHEUS), smart metering (ENLITEN), and post-occupancy evaluation. Professor Coley serves on national built environment committees and editorial boards of three journals. He accepts PhD students in energy efficiency, Passivhaus design, and climate resilience.
Recent work focuses on thermal comfort in informal settlements, decarbonization strategies, and humanitarian shelter design for conflict zones like Gaza.
