David Coleman

David Coleman is a Lecturer in the Department of Music at Tufts University, School of Arts and Sciences. He holds a MA in Composition from Tufts University (2001) and a BM in Piano Performance and Composition from Boston University (1993). His research focuses on Gospel Choirs and Choral Music, blending educational and performance-oriented expertise.

His research/teaching interests emphasize choral music, particularly gospel traditions. He has directed choirs for high-profile events and artists, including Bobby McFerrin, Patti LaBelle, and Ryan Gosling. Recipient of the 2007 Thomas A. Dorsey Award and 2013 New England Urban Music Awards, he is also a member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Massachusetts Music Teachers Association (MMTA), and American Society of Composers and Arrangers (ASCAP).

He has served as Minister of Music at Greater Framingham Community Church and Choral Director at Dana Hall School. His career spans theater collaborations (e.g., The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess) and performances at venues like The White House and Fenway Park.
