Professor David Clark is a leading academic in Medical Sociology and End of Life Care at the University of Glasgow's School of Interdisciplinary Studies. He holds adjunct roles at the University of Southern Denmark and is a Visiting Researcher at the University of Navarra. His career includes founding the Glasgow End of Life Studies Group (2014–2020) and leading a Wellcome Trust Investigator Award focusing on global palliative care interventions. Clark has authored seminal works like To Comfort Always (2016) and Cicely Saunders: A Life and Legacy (2018), highlighting his expertise in hospice history and medical sociology.
His research spans global end of life care policies, palliative care development, and the historical evolution of hospice movements. Notably, he founded the International Observatory on End of Life Care at Lancaster University (2003) and contributed to Scotland’s strategic palliative care frameworks.
