David Carter

David Carter serves as Professor and Department Chair of Theatre at Mississippi University for Women's College of Arts & Sciences, where he also functions as Resident Designer and pioneered the nation's first MFA in Theatre Education program.

His academic credentials include:

• MFA in Scene Design, University of North Carolina School of the Arts

Professor Carter specializes in theatrical design technologies, with expertise spanning set and costume rendering, scene painting, makeup design, and 3D drafting/printing applications. His professional contributions include workshops on Portfolio Development and digital techniques for the Mississippi Theatre Association and Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, along with publications on digital imagery in Yale Technical Briefs.

He has mentored students to regional and national competition wins in Prop Design and Sound Design at the Kennedy Center festival, with alumni securing positions at prestigious venues like Goodspeed Opera House and Utah Shakespeare Festival.

As Resident Designer, he leads production design efforts and maintains active professional credits including SHREK!, Sister Act, Ragtime, and CATS! for theatres such as New Stage (Jackson MS) and Mill Mountain Playhouse (Roanoke VA).
