David Carroll is an Associate Professor of Media Design at Parsons School of Design, The New School. Previously, he served as Director of the MFA Design and Technology program. His work focuses on data rights, legal challenges to corporate data misuse (e.g., Cambridge Analytica), and the intersection of technology, media, and society. He holds an A.B. in Art History & Religion from Bowdoin College and an M.F.A. in Design and Technology from Parsons.

Research interests include transdisciplinary design, mobile media, and programming. His legal efforts against data exploitation have been featured in The Great Hack (Netflix), WIRED, The Guardian, and others. Formerly CEO of a tech startup (Glossy), he explores machine learning and digital archives. Funded by grants from the NSF, MacArthur Foundation, and NIH.
