David Capener is a Lecturer in Architecture and Studio Lead at the Belfast School of Architecture & the Built Environment, Ulster University, with additional affiliation to the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment. His interdisciplinary work bridges architecture, digital studies, artistic practice, and curation.
Capener completed a Marie Curie funded PhD titled "The Production of Space in the Infrasomatic City," investigating how contemporary technological conditions affect urban space and the right to the city. His research interests include:

Capener has received the S+T+ARTS Prize in 2022. His scholarly contributions have been recognized through various publications and exhibitions that explore the relationship between data, architecture, and urban space. His work forms a unique research fingerprint across topics including Entanglement (100%), Architecture (76%), pavilion (66%), Ireland (57%), Irish Landscape (48%), and Data Infrastructure (47%).
He has served as Dissertation Supervisor at Birmingham City University (2021-2022) and as Visiting Lecturer in Media Theory at Technological University Dublin (February 2022). He has also worked as an Awards Assessor for the Arts Council of Ireland (2020-2022).
