David Brooks is an Honorary Professor in Australian Literature at the University of Sydney. He holds degrees BA (ANU), MA and PhD (Toronto). His research focuses on Australian poetry, modernist movements, and animal ethics, particularly the ethical implications of kangaroo slaughter. Brooks has authored over 20 books including The Other Side of Daylight (2024), Animal Dreams (2021), and The Sons of Clovis (2011). His work bridges literary analysis with interdisciplinary studies, exploring themes like cultural memory, ecological crisis, and ethical philosophy.
Brooks has received the Australia Council Fellowship in Fiction (2015–16) and curates projects such as the Kangaroos — The 100 Days Project.
