David Boe is a Professor in the Department of English at Northern Michigan University (NMU), where he has taught since 2001. He holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Indiana University (1996), an M.A. in TESOL from Northern Arizona University, and a B.A. in English from Fort Lewis College. His academic roles include serving as Director of NMU's TESOL Certification program, faculty advisor for the Mortar Board honor society, and Past Chair of the university's Academic Senate (2010–2012).

Boe’s research focuses on English grammar, second language acquisition, and the history of the English language. He is active in professional organizations, including as Secretary/Treasurer of the North American Association for the History of the Language Sciences (NAAHoLS) and a regular presenter at the Linguistic Society of America (LSA) annual meetings.
Prior to NMU, he served as a postdoctoral fellow in linguistics at the University of Nevada, Reno (1999–2001) and a Fulbright lecturer at Vilnius University in Lithuania (1996–1998).
