About
Dr. David Benjamin Keitel is a Tenured Contract Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), leading the GRAVITY research group. As a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration since 2011, his research focuses on gravitational waves from neutron stars and black holes, including large-scale data analysis and astrophysical modeling of compact binary coalescences.
He earned his PhD from Leibniz University Hannover in 2014 for work at the Albert Einstein Institute on continuous gravitational wave searches, where he developed the standard line-robust detection statistic used in Einstein@Home. His undergraduate and master's studies were completed at the University of Bonn with a semester at Stony Brook University.
Keitel's scientific recognitions include:
- Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship (2016-2018)
- Dennis Sciama Research Fellowship (2018-2019)
- Beatriz Galindo Distinguished Researcher position (2020-2023)
- I3 research excellence certificate
- Two positive sexenios evaluations
He has supervised two PhD students, two master's students, and two undergraduate theses. As principal investigator, he leads Spanish national grant CNS2022-135440 and multiple RES computing grants, while participating in numerous state-level research projects including FPA2016-76821-P and PID2022-138626NB-I00.
Keitel serves as co-chair of the LSC Continuous Waves working group, coordinates LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA science summaries, and holds memberships in the LISA Consortium, Einstein Telescope Collaboration, and multiple astronomical societies including the International Astronomical Union.
