David Bart is a Professor in the Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture at the University of Wisconsin–Madison's College of Letters & Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution, an M.A. in Anthropology, and a B.S. in Human Ecology.
His research examines human-induced environmental change, focusing on restoration ecology, plant invasions, wetland diversity, and land-use legacies. He investigates how historical human activities (e.g., agriculture) affect modern ecosystems and restoration outcomes, using local ecological knowledge to inform conservation.
Bart has conducted field studies in the U.S., Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Canada. He teaches interdisciplinary courses including Restoration Ecology and Theories of Landscape Change. Professional memberships include the Ecological Society of America and Society for Ecological Restoration.
