David Barclay

David Barclay is a Professor in the Department of Social Work at Gallaudet University, affiliated with the Civic Leadership, Business and Social Change school. His research focuses on clinical and community practice with deaf and hard of hearing populations, family functioning in brain injury rehabilitation, and the intersection of spirituality/religion with mental health in deaf communities. He actively teaches courses such as Human Behavioral and the Social Environment II, Social Work Practice with Families and Small Groups, and LGBTQ+ Mental Health Practice.

Prof. Barclay has held leadership roles including Chairperson of the Social Work Department (2010–2013), BSW Program Director (2015–2017), and Sexuality and Gender Studies Program Coordinator (2021). He serves on institutional committees such as the Tenure and Promotion Committee (chair, 2020–2021) and the Salary and Benefits Committee. His contributions extend to interdisciplinary initiatives like the GSR (General Studies Requirement) program and collaborative coursework in LGBTQ+ studies and deaf health equity.
