David Akenson

David Akenson is a Lecturer in Visual Art Theory at the University of Southern Queensland's School of Creative Arts since 2010. He holds a BA(Hons) from Griffith University (2000) and a PhD from USQ (2009). His research explores the intersection of art with social life, Kantian aesthetics, ethical art practices, and audience engagement. He supervises doctoral students on topics such as environmental sustainability in art, ethical use of animals in art, and post-Holocaust representation.

Professional memberships include NAVA. Notable publications include work on ethics review processes in academia and critiques of contemporary art practices. He contributed to exhibitions like Undercurrent: Arts and Wellbeing (2023) and authored a book on studio research methodologies in higher education.
