Dave Morris

Teaching Assistant Professor of English at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, specializing in literature, film, and rhetoric. Co-Director of the Program in Professional Writing and former Interim Co-Director. Holds a Ph.D. from UIUC (2012) and degrees from the University of Rochester. Recognized with multiple teaching awards, including the 2016 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

• Research focuses on speculative fiction, religion/secularism intersections, and utopian studies.
• Teaches courses on literature and science, film, professional writing, and rhetoric.

Published works include Public Religions in the Future World: Postsecularism and Utopia (2021) and peer-reviewed articles on Octavia Butler, Margaret Atwood, and G. Willow Wilson. Recent work explores queer futurity and secularism in contemporary fiction.

Active in curriculum development, including BTW 250: Principles of Business Communication and online writing courses. Serves on administrative committees and co-organized the New Academy lecture series.
