Dariusz Gajewski is an Associate Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, specializing in Intermedia and Digital Techniques. He joined the institution in 1999 as part of its Kraków branch, which became an independent academy in Katowice in 2001. He earned his Doctor of Fine Arts in 2005 and became an associate professor (dr hab.) in 2014. His teaching includes the Intermedia and Digital Techniques Studio since 2010, preceded by the Digital Print Studio (2008–2010). He also served as a visiting professor at the University of Ostrava’s drawing studio in Czechia.
In research, Gajewski focuses on digital art, intermedia systems, and design education. Key projects include:
- Visual Information Systems: Collaborated on award-winning signage systems for the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra building (2014 ED-Awards).
- Wayfinding Research: Led studies on user behavior in complex public buildings (Silesian Marshal’s Office).
- Multimedia Art: Contributed to NEBULA, a volumetric filmmaking project blending reality and fantasy (2018 Festival Animator award).
His work bridges traditional craftsmanship and digital innovation, exemplified by studies on ceramic design (Katowice Pattern Project) and editorial design for electronic media. He actively participates in international conferences and exhibitions, including the Beijing 1+1 Art Centre and the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz. His research emphasizes user-centric design, cultural heritage preservation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
