Darius Cret

Darius Cret is a PhD researcher in Philosophy and Black Male Studies at the University of Edinburgh's School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences (PPLS), funded by the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities (SGSAH). As an Associate Fellow of Advance HE and Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society, he serves as Tutor for undergraduate philosophy courses including Knowledge and Reality, History of Philosophy, and Morality and Value.

His academic qualifications include:

Cret's research critically examines Euro-American psychiatry's role in pathologizing Black masculinity through colonial frameworks, arguing that psychiatric paradigms have historically reinforced dehumanizing associations between Blackness and criminal insanity. His work synthesizes Black Male Studies with anti-colonial theory to reconstruct 'Black rage' as revolutionary resistance against white supremacy, while challenging unaddressed racial biases in contemporary clinical practice.

His sole publication to date—a 2025 book review in HannahArendt.Net—engages with medicalization of negative emotions through critical philosophical lenses, reflecting his broader focus on decolonizing psychiatric epistemology and ethics.
