Darin Barney

Dr. Darin Barney holds the Grierson Chair in Communication Studies and serves as Department Chair at McGill University. His research examines technology's relationship with citizenship, democracy, and ecology through materialist frameworks. Current work focuses on energy infrastructures, resource politics, and transition pathways.

Research explores:

• Material dimensions of media and communication
• Energy infrastructures and societal transitions
• Political forms in resource-dependent societies
• Environmental implications of technological systems

Leads the Grierson Research Group and collaborates with interdisciplinary initiatives including Petrocultures, After Oil collective, and energy research centers. Authored influential works on network society and technological citizenship.
