Darcey Engen serves as Professor and Chair of the Theater Arts Department at Augsburg University, teaching Advanced Acting, Voice for the Stage and Screen, and Movement for the Actor while directing 19 main stage productions spanning classical to contemporary works over 23 years.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Augsburg University and Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Wisconsin, following prior assistant professor roles at the University of Kentucky and University of Northern Iowa.
Her creative scholarship focuses on Theater Arts, Acting, and Directing with specialization in Voice/Movement training, Community-Based Theater development, and Classical Drama adaptation addressing rural societal issues through collaborative production models.
Her honors include:
- Excellence in Scholarship award from Augsburg University (2013)
As co-founder of Sod House Theater, she secured Minnesota State Arts Board funding for statewide tours involving professional-community collaborations. She co-chaired Augsburg's Sesquicentennial (2019) and created original performance works exploring motherhood.
Engen performs with Twin Cities institutions including Theatre de la Jeune Lune and Brave New Workshop, directing Sod House productions like 'The Visit', 'Peer Gynt', and 'An Enemy of the People' that engage rural Minnesota communities.
