Daphne Brooks

Daphne Brooks is Professor of African American Studies, American Studies, and Theater Studies at Yale University. Her interdisciplinary scholarship examines race, gender, and performance across musical and theatrical traditions.

Research explores:

• Intersections of African American cultural production and performance history
• Gender dynamics in popular music and theater
• Critical race theory applications in performing arts analysis

Her publications establish new frameworks for understanding Black expressive culture within American social history.
