Daphne Beal

Daphne Beal is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Writing at Pratt Institute's School of Liberal Arts & Sciences. She holds an MFA in Fiction Writing from New York University (1998) and a BA in Literature and Society from Brown University (1992).

Her research and creative interests span fiction writing, literary journalism, and narrative nonfiction. She has published a novel, In the Land of No Right Angles (Vintage/Anchor, 2008), alongside short stories in Open City, American Short Fiction, and essays in The New York Times Magazine, McSweeney’s, and Vogue.

Beal has received prestigious fellowships, including the New York Times Fellowship at NYU and participation in the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and Vermont Studio Center.
