Danuta Wasserman

Professor Danuta Wasserman is a leading academic in Psychiatry and Suicidology at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. She is the Founder and Director of the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention of Mental Ill-Health (NASP) and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Suicide Prevention. She currently serves as President of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA, 2023–2026) and has held leadership roles in organizations such as the European Psychiatric Association and International Academy of Suicide Research. Her research focuses on suicide prevention, mental health, and public health interventions.

Key achievements include pioneering suicide prevention initiatives in Europe, leading EU-funded projects (e.g., SEYLE, WE-STAY), and receiving prestigious awards like the Morselli Medal. She also organized the 2009 Nobel Conference on genetics and mental health. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and global policy impact.
