Dr. Danny Bright is an Associate Professor in Music and Music Technology at the University of Sussex, currently serving as Head of the Music Department. He holds a PhD in Musical Composition from the University of Sussex, alongside MA and BA degrees in Music and American Studies. His professional activities include membership in the 2024-25 QAA Subject Benchmark Statement Review Advisory Group for Music.
His research focuses on 'Sonic Ghosting'—exploring space/place/memory through fractured sonic practices—and innovative uses of guitar technology. Notable collaborations include the experimental duo Noise Peddler, which pioneers no-input pedalboard performance systems. Bright’s work spans installations, theatre sound design, and live electronics, with performances at venues like the V&A, Edinburgh Festival, and New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival.
Bright teaches modules such as Performing with Electronics and Studio Project, emphasizing creative music technologies and interdisciplinary practices. His current PhD supervisees explore themes like queerness in post-internet music, palimpsestic listening, and trans/nonbinary musician experiences.
