Dr. Danieli BC Rodrigues is an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), part of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. She holds a PhD in Bioengineering from Syracuse University and joined UTD in 2012 after industrial experience at Zimmer Inc. Her research focuses on biomaterials for orthopedic and dental implants, including bone cements, failure mechanisms, corrosion, and antimicrobial coatings. She leads the BONE Lab, which emphasizes translational applications in implant performance and biocompatibility.
Education:
- PhD in Bioengineering, Syracuse University (2010)
- MS in Bioengineering, Syracuse University (2007)
- BS in Chemical Engineering, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Brazil (2005)
Research Interests:
- Development of bone cements for implant fixation
- Failure mechanisms in modular total-joint and dental implants
- Corrosion and its role in pseudotumor and peri-implantitis
- Antimicrobial and biocompatible coatings for implants
BONE Lab: The lab fosters interdisciplinary research to address challenges in implant design and biomaterial-implant-body interactions. Current projects include improving osseointegration for diabetic patients and studying bacterial adhesion on implant surfaces.
Student Mentorship: Dr. Rodrigues has mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students, many of whom have pursued advanced degrees or careers in dentistry, medicine, and biomedical engineering. Notable alumni include Alikhan Fidai (Cornell PhD), Jason Chang (Cornell PhD), and Thao Hoang (medical school).
