About
Daniela Tordella is a Full Professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT), Politecnico di Torino. Her research focuses on fluid dynamics with emphasis on atmospheric turbulence, hydrodynamic stability, and warm cloud microphysics.
- Scientific branch: Fluid Dynamics (IIND-01/F)
- ERC sectors: PE8_5 (Fluid Mechanics), PE10_2 (Atmospheric Physics)
She leads projects like HOUSEFLIES (2024–2025) and MIGRE (2021–2022), developing miniaturized expendable radiosondes for atmospheric monitoring. Her work spans LES modeling of hypersonic jets, simulation of YSO jets, and traveling wave dispersion in sheared flows. Recent publications highlight Lagrangian dispersion measurements using wireless sensor clusters, reflecting her expertise in climate action and environmental technology.
Awardee of the PRACE Success Story (2013), she has chaired major conferences such as the 17th European Turbulence Conference (2019) and Euromech Colloquium 512 (2009). She has served as Scientific Director for EU-funded networks like COMPLETE (2016–2020) and JETSOT (2005–present).
As a PhD supervisor, she guided Shahbozbek Abdunabiev (2020–2024) on radiosonde cluster networks. Her teaching includes Hydrodynamic Stability and Computational Fluid Dynamics modules for Aerospace and Mathematical Engineering programs. She contributes to ERC grant evaluations and is a contact person for international collaborations like the CMSO-JETSOT academic exchange.
