Daniela Calzetti

Daniela Calzetti is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Massachusetts. Her research focuses on star formation in galaxies, leveraging data from Hubble, Spitzer, Herschel, and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). She investigates how star formation is influenced by interstellar medium radiation transfer and feedback mechanisms from young star clusters.

Calzetti earned a B.S. (1987) and Ph.D. (1992) in Physics from the University of Rome. Her work emphasizes multi-wavelength studies across ultraviolet to radio wavelengths, with a particular interest in the hierarchical distribution of star-forming structures and gas-star formation linkages.

Recent projects include the FEAST initiative studying star cluster emergence timescales using JWST, and the CLUES survey analyzing stellar feedback in star-forming regions. Her articles address topics like PAH destruction in NGC 628, disk thickness in M51, and molecular cloud properties in M83.

Teaching and mentorship are central to her career, with a focus on fostering diversity in astronomy through undergraduate/graduate research mentoring and career guidance.
