Daniela Alaattinoglu is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Turku. She holds a Doctor of Laws from the European University Institute (EUI) and is a Docent in Socio-legal Studies at the University of Turku. A 2025 Nils Klim Laureate, she leads the ERC-funded From the Margin to the Centre project on rights development and indigeneity in the Nordics. She co-edits Retfærd, the Nordic Journal of Law and Justice, and co-founded the Law, Space and Justice research environment at Turku Law Faculty. Her research focuses on socio-legal dynamics, gender, human rights, and transitional justice, with a particular emphasis on marginalized groups.<\/p>
Alaattinoglu’s expertise spans socio-legal studies, gender and law, and legal mobilization. Her work examines how law both enables and excludes groups, particularly through studies on involuntary sterilization, femicide, and trans rights in Nordic contexts. Her monograph Grievance Formation, Rights and Remedies (2023) and co-edited volume Contesting Femicide (2019) highlight her interdisciplinary approach.<\/p>
She has secured grants from the European Research Council (ERC Starting Grant), Icelandic Research Fund, and Research Council of Finland. Her international fellowships include the University of Melbourne (2018) and the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology (2019). She prioritizes mentoring doctoral students from underrepresented groups.<\/p>
Alaattinoglu’s multilingualism in English, Finnish, Scandinavian languages, and Turkish supports her comparative research. Recent articles address trans rights mobilization, intersex rights in Nordic legal systems, and the #metoo movement’s impact on Finnish law. She also explores geopolitical tensions at the Finnish-Russian border through a legal lens.<\/p>
