His research explores landscape and spatial narratives through cultural, social, political, and environmental lenses, framed by his concept of pata-perception—a hybrid approach to imaginative and experiential inquiry. His work spans image, moving image, drawing, installation, music, and performance, often questioning the intersections of natural and human-made environments.
Scientific awards include the ACNI Major Artist Award (2004), Nissan Art Award (2000), and Perspective Award (1998). Recent works like Starmaps: Borderlands (2017) and Canoe / Curraghs (2023) emphasize hybrid design and heritage reinterpretation. He contributes to global dialogues on art and the environment, including the podcast From Deep Blue to Pale Blue (BBC Radio 3, 2021).
