About
Daniel Safer serves as Senior Lecturer in Theater Arts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Artistic Director of Witness Relocation, a dance/theater company in residence at LaMama Experimental Theatre Club in New York City. His work has been presented internationally at venues including Théâtre National de Chaillot (Paris), Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Salzburg Festival, as well as in unconventional spaces such as bar back rooms and large festivals.
Specializing in the fusion of dance and theater, Safer creates original works ranging from fully scripted plays (including world premieres by Chuck Mee and Toshiki Okada) to experimental dance/theater pieces. He has choreographed for operas, fashion shows, and films, with notable projects including Stravinsky's RITE OF SPRING for the Philadelphia Orchestra. His work is critically acclaimed as 'pure expressionistic danger' by Artforum Magazine and 'a purveyor of lo-fi mayhem' by Time Out NY.
Witness Relocation, under Safer's direction, functions as a creative laboratory for developing new performance works, often in collaboration with international artists and presented at major festivals and experimental venues worldwide.
