Daniel R. Brunstetter is Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Irvine. His research examines political theory through historical and ethical lenses, focusing on early modern European thought and contemporary just war theory. Educational background includes a PhD in Political Science from UC Davis (2005), MSc in Philosophy from the London School of Economics (1999), and MA in Latin American Studies from Tulane University (1998).
Major publications include the monograph 'Tensions of Modernity' analyzing European-Native American encounters and their impact on human rights discourse, and the award-nominated 'Just and Unjust Uses of Limited Force' which develops the ethical framework of jus ad vim. Current book project explores last letters of French Resistance fighters executed by Nazis and their post-war memorialization.
Dr. Brunstetter's work has appeared in leading journals including Ethics & International Affairs and Journal of Military Ethics. He has co-edited multiple volumes on just war theory and received the Chateaubriand fellowship for research in France.
