About
Daniel Promislow is a Senior Scientist at the Vitamin K Lab-HNRC and an Affiliate in the Department of Biology at Tufts University. He is also a member of the Graduate Biomedical Sciences program in Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology. His research focuses on evolutionary genetics and systems biology approaches to understand aging mechanisms across species, leveraging metabolomics and comparative studies in organisms like flies, dogs, and humans.
Education:
- Bachelor of Arts, University of Chicago, 1986
- D.Phil., Oxford University, 1990
Research Interests: Investigating why aging rates differ between species and individuals. Current projects include sex differences in aging, social behavior's impact on aging, and predictive biological clocks. He co-founded and leads the Dog Aging Project, a longitudinal study involving over 50,000 dogs to explore healthy aging factors.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science
- Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America
Advising & Grants: Leads the Dog Aging Project, a highly interdisciplinary initiative. Collaborates widely on aging mechanisms and translational research. Over 200 publications span fruit flies, yeast, mice, humans, marmosets, and dogs.
Labs & Teams: Principal investigator in the Vitamin K Lab at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center, and affiliated with Tufts' Biology Department.
