Daniel Popescu is a University Lecturer and Department Director at the Department of Sculpture, University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca. He holds a PhD in Visual Arts and has been actively contributing to the academic and artistic community since completing his doctoral studies in 2022.
His research interests focus on the intersection of visual arts, social innovation, and public space engagement through light-based installations and urban comics. Popescu's work explores how visual narratives can activate urban spaces and foster community interaction, particularly through his ongoing In-Between and in[visible] installation series.
His recent publications examine urban comics as research methods in social innovation, reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary approaches that bridge artistic practice with social impact. Popescu has presented his work at numerous international conferences including the Image Beyond the Screen International Conference in France and the International Glow Conference in Eindhoven.
As an active practitioner, he serves as Artistic Director of Lights On Romania (2018-present) and has curated multiple exhibitions including IMAGINING FUTURES. Urban Comics from ArtiViStory Collective at the Cluj-Napoca Art Museum. His international exhibition portfolio spans installations in Copenhagen, London, Paris, and Wrocław, demonstrating a significant global reach for his artistic work.
