Daniel Phillips

Daniel Phillips is a Professor and Graduate Chair in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Ohio University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. He has been a faculty member since 2000 and was promoted to Professor in 2009.

His research centers on theoretical nuclear physics, with a focus on developing effective field theories to describe nuclear forces and the structure of atomic nuclei, especially neutron-rich halo nuclei and applications of Bayesian methods to quantify uncertainties in nuclear models. His work bridges nuclear theory and experimental data from facilities such as Jefferson Lab, RIKEN, and FRIB.

The most recent articles reflect a strong trend in statistical and computational nuclear theory, particularly in quantifying model and truncation uncertainties using Bayesian frameworks, alongside continued work in few-body systems and astrophysical reaction rates.

He has held visiting positions at Chubu University (Japan), the University of Bonn and Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany), and Chalmers University (Sweden). He has also served in leadership roles such as Director of the FRIB Theory Alliance and Chair of the APS Division of Nuclear Physics Education Committee.

Laboratories and Research Teams: He is affiliated with the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics at Ohio University and collaborates with international research groups, including those at the Institute for Nuclear Theory and the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams.
