Daniel Patrick Harrison

Dr. Daniel Patrick Harrison is an Associate Professor in the Department of Science at Southern Cross University's Faculty of Science and Engineering. He holds the Sub-Program Lead role in the Cooling and Shading sub-program of the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program. Previously, he served as a Senior Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow at the National Marine Science Centre and Sydney Institute of Marine Science. His research focuses on engineering interventions to mitigate coral bleaching and improve marine ecosystem resilience, particularly through marine cloud brightening and habitat restoration techniques.

Education: Harrison earned a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the University of Sydney (2004), followed by a Master of Engineering (Oceanography) (2012) and PhD in Biological Oceanography (2017). He conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Sydney and was a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California.

Research Interests: His work integrates field measurements, computational modeling, and empirical studies to address marine biogeochemistry, fisheries management, and geoengineering solutions. Key areas include aerosol-cloud interactions, coral reef restoration, and solar radiation management strategies.

Scientific Awards: He received the Mid-Career Researcher Award for Research Excellence (2022) from Southern Cross University.

Advising & Grants: Harrison leads projects funded by institutions like the Advanced Research+ Invention Agency and contributed to the Myer Innovation Fellowship (2017) for coral bleaching research. He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on environmental modeling for large-scale climate interventions.
