Daniel Orwin

Daniel Orwin is a Lecturer in Fashion Film at the Manchester Fashion Institute, part of Manchester Metropolitan University. He holds a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Film & Video and an MA in Filmmaking from Manchester School of Art. His work focuses on themes of place, cultural memory, and collaborative practices across documentary and experimental mediums. Orwin is the Digital Content Lead (Film) for Manchester Fashion Institute’s Reputation & Profile Working Group and has professional affiliations with Ransack Theatre and the Institute of Place Management. His research explores the role of fashion in storytelling and urban cultural heritage.

Orwin’s academic career includes roles at the University of Salford and University Centre Leeds, where he specialized in curriculum development and pedagogy. He has supervised MSc International Fashion Marketing students and contributed to industry collaborations with brands like Alexander McQueen. Awards include the Student Royal Television Society Award (2012) and a Fellowship from AdvanceHE (FHEA).

His creative projects span film installations, theatre collaborations, and brand content for errornogo. Notable works include Drinking in a Pub (2018) and Fifty Seven (2018), exploring urban memory through film. Recent projects include the 2025 Future Couture film for Manchester Art Gallery and multiple editorial and exhibition films for Manchester Fashion Institute’s graduate showcases.

Orwin’s teaching emphasizes contextual practice, with modules on Industry Proposal, Fashion Futures, and Fashion X. Professional memberships include the Cricket Research Network and F/fashion Narratives research group, focusing on interdisciplinary and inclusive practices.
