Daniel N. Allen is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), College of Liberal Arts. He directs the Neuropsychology Research Program and two coordinated specialty care programs for early severe mental illness. Dr. Allen is a past president of the National Academy of Neuropsychology and holds fellowships in several professional associations. His work bridges clinical practice and research to improve outcomes for individuals with psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Allen employs clinical and cognitive neuropsychological methods to investigate psychiatric and neurological disorders, with a focus on schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. His research examines heterogeneity in neurocognitive function, exploring factors such as substance use comorbidity, endophenotypes, negative symptoms, trauma, and premorbid adjustment. He has pioneered methods to study social cognition and emotion processing, and recently expanded into digital phenotyping to track recovery and relapse in early severe mental illness.
