His research spans Comparative Politics and Public Law, with a regional focus on Latin America. Recent publications (2020–2025) explore judicialization backlash, constitutional design, human rights to water/sanitation, private regulatory initiatives, and institutional weakness in Latin America. These reflect a consistent focus on the intersection of law, power, and social change, emphasizing empirical and comparative analysis of legal systems.

He leads collaborative projects including an NSF-funded initiative studying global legal institutions (with Jeff Staton and Rachel Cichowski) and a Ford Foundation-funded analysis of human rights in supply chain capitalism. He coordinates research teams at the Centre on Law and Social Transformation on rights realization frameworks.
