About
Daniel Lin is an Associate Professor at Saint Louis University and an adjunct associate professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). A trained psychiatrist with extensive cross-disciplinary training in statistics and psychiatry, Dr. Lin holds a PhD in Psychiatric Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University and completed postdoctoral research training at Duke University and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in the USA. His academic journey includes medical training at National Taiwan University, residency in psychiatry at National Taiwan University Hospital, and specialized fellowships in molecular genomics and statistical genetics.
Dr. Lin's research expertise spans psychiatric genetics, epigenomics, eye-tracking methodologies, clinical heterogeneity, epidemiology and biostatistics, suicide prevention and intervention, and aggressive behaviors. His work integrates neurogenetics, statistical and quantitative genetics, public health, behavioral and environmental epidemiology with machine learning techniques. His research focuses on intrinsic and extrinsic factors influencing mental health, using advanced statistical models to investigate complex psychiatric conditions.
His research portfolio includes 19 competitive grants totaling over $19 million AUD, featuring a multi-center clinical trial of adolescent suicide intervention. His publications in high-impact journals like The Lancet and JAMA Pediatrics reflect work on genetic association studies, clinical trials, eye-tracking studies, and cohort studies. Current research trends show a strong emphasis on autism spectrum disorder, suicide prevention, and the application of machine learning in psychiatric epidemiology.
Dr. Lin has been actively involved in multiple collaborative research projects addressing critical mental health issues including:
- A multi-site study comparing psychiatric treatment outcomes for suicidal adolescents
- Investigating comorbidities associated with polygenic loadings in autism
- Studying predictive models for aggressive behaviors in pediatric psychiatric patients
- Examining bullying-victimization in children with neurodevelopmental disorders
- Exploring the role of microRNA in metabolic adverse effects associated with antipsychotics
His long-term career goal is to establish an integrative epidemiology program that combines clinical, experimental, and population data to translate research findings into clinical or public health practices, with particular focus on suicide prevention and autism spectrum disorder research.
