Dr. Daniel Leland is an Assistant Professor of Business at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. He holds a DBA from Walden University, an MBA from Thomas College, and a BSBA from Saint Joseph's College. His professional background includes 15 years as a self-employed small business owner, managing multiple award-winning bakeries in Portland, Maine. He previously served as a professor at Purdue Global University, associate professor at Thomas College, and head coach for men’s and women’s basketball and cross-country at the University of Maine Machias. He also chaired the Faculty Senate for four years.
Leland’s research focuses on innovative pedagogical methods in business education, including qualitative case studies on small business success. He is affiliated with the Society of the Advancement of Management and contributes to the Journal of Economic Teaching. He actively promotes Open Educational Resources (OER) through his role on the Open Resource Community of Practice board. Leland has organized academic trips for students to Wall Street, Nashville, Orlando, and San Diego.
His coaching legacy includes leading the University of Maine Machias team to the USCAA Final Four. Beyond academia, he enjoys biking, skiing, and travel.
