Daniel J. Fitzmier is an Associate Professor of Instruction at the School of Communication, Northwestern University, and serves as the Director of Debate & Forensics. His career focuses on leading the Northwestern University Debate Society in NDT-style college debate competitions nationwide.

Fitzmier has coached debate teams to remarkable achievements, including ten National Debate Tournament (NDT) final appearances and six NDT Championships (2015, 2011, 2005, 2003, 2002, 2000). He has also mentored three NDT Top Speakers and seven Copeland Award-winning teams.
He has received the James J. Unger Award an unprecedented four times and was honored as the National Debate Coach of the Year in 2013.
