Professor Daniel Hungerman is a Professor of Economics at the University of Notre Dame and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). His research focuses on fertility, child wellbeing, church-state dynamics, and philanthropy. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Duke University (2005) and a B.A. in Economics from Miami University (2000). Professor Hungerman has been recognized for excellence in undergraduate instruction at Notre Dame.
His work explores intersections between religion and economic behavior, including studies on tax incentives for charitable giving, the impact of secular competition on religious institutions, and the effects of school choice policies on church finances. He has served as President of the Association for the Study of Generosity in Economics and previously held leadership roles in the Association for the Study of Religion, Economics, and Culture and the Association of Christian Economists.
