About
Dr Daniel Ho is an Associate Professor of Nanophotonics and Electrical Engineering at Northumbria University's School of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering. He leads the Nanophotonic Engineering Laboratory (NEL), focusing on functional materials for energy, medical, and quantum technologies. His research integrates additive manufacturing, optoelectronics, and real-time monitoring via IoT.
- PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Bristol (2007)
- BSc in Electrical Engineering from National Taipei University of Technology (1999)
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
Research interests span 3D nanophotonics, smart medical devices (e.g., stent monitoring), and solar-thermal materials. Current EPSRC-funded projects include hyperuniform metasurfaces for energy absorption and piezoelectric materials for intelligent stents. Key collaborations involve University of Bristol, Southampton, and international partners.
Recent work includes advanced photonic crystal designs, functionalized 3D electrocatalysts, and quantum photon sources. Projects have secured £1.4M+ in grants, including EPSRC and Royal Society funding. NEL actively supervises PhD students in nanophotonics and materials science.
