Daniel H. Strait is a Professor of English and Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Asbury University, where he has taught for 25 years. He has held multiple roles, including Department Chair of English and Associate Dean. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. from Florida Atlantic University, and a B.A. from Houghton College.
Strait’s research focuses on intersections of literature, philosophy, and religion, particularly in Shakespearean drama, Renaissance poetry (George Herbert), and 19th-century American literature (Emily Dickinson). He has authored numerous articles on George Herbert, G.K. Chesterton, and interdisciplinary studies, and has presented at conferences globally. His awards include multiple Frances White Ewbank Excellence in Teaching Awards and grants from the Lilly Foundation and NEH.
His scholarly contributions span poetry analysis, literary biography, and religious language, with a emphasis on early modern and American literature. Recent work explores embodied perception in Herbert’s poetry and cross-cultural literary dialogues.
