Daniel Givan, D.M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.P., is Professor and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Dentistry, where he also directs Digital Dentistry and Clinical Laboratory Services. He earned a D.M.D. from the University of Mississippi (1992), completed prosthodontics training at UAB, and holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from UAB (2001). His research integrates dental materials science, digital workflows, and clinical prosthodontics, with specific interests in implantology, occlusion, CAD/CAM technologies, and 3D-printed dental materials.
Dr. Givan maintains an active faculty practice focused on complex prosthodontic rehabilitation. He has secured multiple research grants from organizations including Dentsply Implants, DMG, and 3M, supporting clinical trials on dental composites, zirconia restorations, and disinfection techniques. Honors include Fellowships in the American College of Prosthodontists, International College of Dentists, and American College of Dentists, along with board certification from the American Board of Prosthodontics.
As an educator, he mentors graduate students in prosthodontics and implantology and leads courses including Graduate Implantology and Occlusion. His extensive service includes university-wide governance roles, such as chair-elect of the faculty senate and leadership in the American College of Prosthodontists.
