Prof. Dr. Daniel G. König is a Professor of the History of the Early and High Middle Ages at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich since 2025. Previously, he held positions at the University of Konstanz (2018–2025) as Professor of the History of Religions, the University of Heidelberg (2014–2018) as Professor for Transcultural Studies, and worked at the German Historical Institute in Paris (2007–2011) and Goethe University Frankfurt (2011–2014).
- Research Foci: Trans-Mediterranean interreligious history, Christian-Muslim relations, Orientalism/Occidentalism, multilingualism and translation movements (Latin/Arabic), pre-modern global history, and religious expansion processes.
His scholarly contributions include coordinating the DFG network 'Transcultural Entanglements in the Medieval Euromediterraneum (500–1500)' (2012–2016) and leading the research group 'FranceMed' (2008–2010). He received the Humboldt University Prize (2016) and a DFG Heisenberg Fellowship (2017).
