Lancaster UniversityAbout
Dr Daniel Elton is a Senior Lecturer in Pure Mathematics at Lancaster University's School of Mathematical Sciences. His academic work focuses on advanced mathematical theories with applications in physics.
His research interests span three main areas:
- Analysis of Partial Differential Equations
- Spectral Theory
- Mathematical Physics
Dr Elton specializes in the spectral theory of partial differential operators, particularly those arising in mathematical physics. His research includes work on zero modes of Pauli and Dirac operators, operators with periodic or quasi-periodic coefficients, and the stability of embedded eigenvalues. His most recent publication in 2020 examined decay rates at infinity for solutions to periodic Schrödinger equations, reflecting his focus on mathematical quantum mechanics and spectral analysis.
Dr Elton actively supervises PhD students and has advised researchers including Nikolaos Alexandrakis and Luke Mader. He has secured research funding for projects such as 'Spectral Properties of Magnetic Operators' (2007-2010) and supported student initiatives through the Undergraduate Mathematics Society Meetings Grant (2019). He is affiliated with the Analysis and Mathematical Physics research group within the School of Mathematical Sciences.
