Dr. Daniel Elstein is a Lecturer in Ethical and Political Philosophy at the School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science, University of Leeds. He rejoined the university in 2013 after previous appointments at the University of Reading and University College London. His research focuses on the foundations of morality, moral judgment, and the justification of moral claims. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from Cambridge University, supervised by Simon Blackburn and Hallvard Lillehammer.
His research interests span meta-ethics, normative ethics, distributive justice, epistemic entitlement, and epistemic consequentialism. He teaches across ethics, logic, epistemology, metaphysics, political philosophy, and the history of philosophy, including modules for the PPE program. He actively supervises PhD students in his research areas.
Elstein is affiliated with the Centre for Aesthetic, Moral and Political Philosophy and the Centre for Theoretical Philosophy. Current postgraduate researchers under his supervision include Ludovica Adamo and Leonora Gunn.
