About
Daniel DeHanas serves as Reader in Politics and Religion within the Department of Theology & Religious Studies at King's College London's Faculty of Arts & Humanities. His research critically examines intersections of religion, politics, and identity in transatlantic contexts, with emphasis on populism and Muslim communities.
His primary research domains include Religion and Politics, Populism, and the Muslim Atlantic framework analyzing UK/US Muslim experiences. Work explores sacred dimensions of populist movements, apocalyptic rhetoric in politics, and how race, gender, and securitization shape Muslim marginality. He identifies key trends in transnational Islam and political religion through comparative studies of Western Muslim communities.
DeHanas led the British Council-funded project The Muslim Atlantic: Exploring Transnational Connections between American and British Muslims (2018-2020) and has supervised three research students. His publications demonstrate sustained focus on political religion, transnational Muslim networks, and critical analysis of populism's spiritual dimensions across contemporary Western societies.
