About
Associate Professor Daniel Carter is affiliated with the School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where he has held his position since January 2019. His research focuses on cancer biology, particularly neuroblastoma, leveraging single-cell technologies to advance targeted therapies. He is also a Project Leader at the Children’s Cancer Institute since 2011 and an Early Career Fellow at the Cancer Institute of New South Wales (2021–2020).
Dr. Carter holds a PhD and a Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours 1) from UNSW Australia. His work integrates molecular mechanisms, epigenetics, and translational research to address challenges in pediatric cancers.
Research Interests: Neuroblastoma pathogenesis, epigenetic therapies, single-cell analysis, and MYCN-driven tumorigenesis. His studies explore protein functions (e.g., Runx1t1, GADD45A), alternative splicing pathways, and drug combinations targeting histone methyltransferases.
Funded Research: He leads grants such as 'Single cell fate mapping of intracranial dissemination in glioblastoma' (Tour De Cure, 2025–2026) and 'A one-two punch therapeutic strategy for neuroblastoma' (NHMRC Ideas Grant, 2024–2027).
- Awards: Early Career Fellow (Cancer Institute NSW, 2021–2020)
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams at UTS and the Children’s Cancer Institute, focusing on translational pediatric oncology research.
